Why You Should Donate to this Scholarship

Doris Parker is my grandmother. After my mom left us at a young age my grandma stepped in to help my dad raise us. Growing up I’d often wonder why my mom would choose her addiction over us. Being a kid in this situation it was easy to let myself be a victim and think there was something wrong with me, but unlike many kids in this situation, I had my grandma. She never allowed me to use this as an excuse to not live my life to the fullest. She taught me to never let the world bring you down. Crappy stuff is going to happen, but you have the power to choose to be happy. The lives she has changed include my amazing father, my aunts, my sister… The list goes on.

I’ve learned one small act of kindness is all it takes to change the moment. With the support of her, my family, and friends I would make later on in life, I would be the first one to graduate in my family with a degree in Physics. This degree has changed my life and has empowered me to be the woman my grandma always knew I could be. This was made possible by a scholarship given to me by the Weber State Physics department. After seeing how much this changed my life I decided to give back in the same way. I would like to use this scholarship to help the next person who needs it, paying it forward as my grandmother has done for so long. As I can only give so much, I have opened this scholarship up to accept donations. While I can only help one person, together we can change the lives of many.
